Movie: City of Gold

The documentary City of Gold outlines Jonathan Gold’s impact on the eating and food culture throughout Los Angeles, California. The film takes a close look at Gold’s background and how he is able to combine culture and food into reviews that speak to large audiences.

Gold himself is an interesting character; a kind man who is as thoughtful with his words when he is speaking as when he is writing his reviews.

Movie Review: Don’t Think Twice

Movie: Don’t Think Twice

We watched Don’t Think Twice, written and directed by Mike Birbiglia, at the recommendation of some colleagues. Birbiglia also plays one of the main characters. The ensemble cast includes some great names among it: Gillian Jacobs, Kate Micucci, and Keegan Michael-Key to name a few.

Overall, the film kept us entertained, but not laughing out loud. Don’t get us wrong, the film is funny, but since a lot of the improv is done in snippets,

Book Review: Option B by Sheryl Sandberg & Adam Grant

Book: Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy
Authors: Sheryl Sandberg & Adam Grant

We read Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy by Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant shortly after its publication this April 2017. The Penguin Random House book, published under its Alfred K. Knopf imprint, was riveting to say the least. Sheryl bravely goes into detail about the harrowing moments of her late husband’s passing and the months of sorrow that followed for both her and her family.

Song of the Day: West Coast by Lana Del Rey

We’ve been in love with Lana Del Rey since  we first heard “Blue Jeans.” It is still in our top favorite songs.

The 27-year-old was born in New York City and she played around the city under various names before releasing her Lana Del Rey album in 2010. She’s said to have suffered from alcoholism at an early age.

Recently, Lana released her latest single “West Coast.” We think it is pretty fantastic.

Song of the Day: Honky Cat by Elton John

We’re just going to be honest here. We have an obsession. One that is long-stemming from a childhood filled with Elton John-themed road trips, birthday parties and movies. Elton John has been with us our whole lives, and we love pretty much everything about him.

One of our favorite things in particular — besides his wonderful sartorial skills — is his song “Honky Cat” that was released in 1972 on his Honky Chateau album. It’s got that blues-y feel with the down-home lyrics that we love.

Google Shopping Express

We had our first experience with Google Shopping Express over the weekend. We decided to order form four different stores just to see how efficiently the delivery would work; it was great!

We chose to have the delivery take place the day following when our order was placed — we ordered it late in the evening or we likely would have had the option for same day delivery. The order arrived in two separate deliveries within a four-hour time-slot that we chose upon placing the order.

Song of the Day: Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes #tbt

Hi all!

In a nod to #tbt our song of the day is “Bette Davis Eyes” by Kim Carnes.

That’s right — Kim Carnes — not Stevie Nicks as many of you might think! (We did.) Kim Carnes was born in 1945 and is a two-time Grammy winner for her song “Bette Davis Eyes” which won both Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the 1982 Grammy Awards.

Song of the Day: I Luh Ya Papi by Jennifer Lopez

Today’s song of the day is “I Luh Ya Papi” by Jennifer Lopez. It is one of our favorite songs of the summer, not only for its catch-iness, but also for it’s awesome commentary on the sexism endemic to much of the music industry. This video turns that sexism on its head and shows just how ridiculous many of the ways men expect women to act in music videos really are.
